Rain Cleared as the 2026 Summer Fun Run & Walk Series Kicked Off at Hummel Park
Rain clouds threatened to spoil the fun Wednesday evening, but just in time for kickoff, the skies cleared and sunshine rolled in for the official launch of the 2026 Summer Fun Run & Walk Series presented by Hendricks Regional Health.
Hundreds of community members gathered at Hummel Park in Plainfield to begin the 12-week park-hopping series that encourages participants to explore parks and trails throughout Hendricks County while supporting the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County.
Funds raised through the Summer Fun Run & Walk Series help support special grant projects and improvements in parks, trails, and outdoor spaces throughout Hendricks County.
The kickoff event welcomed runners, walkers, families, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. Participants arrived with pups, strollers, scooters, hiking sticks, and bikes as they enjoyed an evening focused on movement, community connection, and outdoor adventure.
Sponsors and community partners helped bring additional energy to the event with activities including hula hoop contests and cornhole, while participants picked up their official 2026 Summer Fun Run & Walk Series shirts, stickers and passports. Sodeez also helped keep attendees refreshed throughout the evening and Dave Hatfield brought the fun tunes!
The Parks Foundation of Hendricks County extended a special thank you to kickoff sponsor Banning Engineering, as well as the volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who helped make the evening possible.
The 2026 Summer Fun Run & Walk Series will continue throughout the summer with events hosted at 12 different parks and trails across Hendricks County.
Registration for the series remains open at summerfunrun.org.
